The last thing that a computer user wants is its computer to heat up due to any reason possible. especially if you are a gamer than nothing can be more horrific or scary for you than a hot PC!
With the advancement in technology and the increased demand of more function specific components along with an ever topping up load on these components has not only made inventors to think of newer ways to keep their systems cool with improved cabinets and cooling mechanisms so as to keep them running at the optimum levels possible but has persuaded software developers to make new softwares to monitor the temperature of a system just to keep the user on his heels!
These software, with the pouring in of new and advanced processors like the Intel 3rd gen and AMD FX series, use a very effective way to measure the temperature. Each core on these processors has a digital thermal sensor (DTS) that reports temperature data relative to TJMax which is the safe maximum operating core temperature for the CPU. As your CPU heats up, your Distance to TJMax will decrease. If it reaches zero, your processor will start to thermal throttle or slow down so maximizing your distance away from TJMax will help your computer run at full speed and more reliably too.
